What's new in tvOS 26.2

Apple is rolling out tvOS 26.2, and it brings two thoughtful upgrades for Apple TV 4K users. The update focuses on making profiles more flexible and improving child content safety inside the TV app.

Create Profiles Without an Apple Account

Previously, Apple required every profile to be linked with an Apple Account, often tied to Family Sharing. This meant each family member or roommate needed a separate account.

With tvOS 26.2, Apple is removing that limitation. Now, users can create profiles directly in the Settings app without linking an Apple Account. You only need to enter a name, set a content rating, and specify whether the profile belongs to a child or an adult.

This simple change makes the feature far more accessible. It now works much like the profile systems found on Netflix or Disney+, giving Apple TV users more flexibility at home.

Content Restrictions for Child Profiles

The second new feature in tvOS 26.2 focuses on parental control. When a child’s profile is active, the Apple TV app will only show content that matches the allowed ratings.

These include common TV ratings such as TV-Y, TV-Y7, and others, ensuring a safer viewing experience for younger audiences. Parents can now manage what their children watch without needing additional apps or complex setups.

A Step Toward Simpler, Safer Streaming

Both updates highlight Apple’s continued effort to make its ecosystem more user-friendly. Profile management is now faster, and parents gain more control over what kids see.

While these may seem like small changes, they make everyday use of the Apple TV 4K smoother and more family-focused.

tvOS 26.2 is still in beta but expected to reach all users soon. Once released, it will further streamline how Apple TV profiles work and how families enjoy content together.
