Smartphone makers are pushing thinness to new limits. In 2025, Apple’s iPhone Air and Motorola’s Edge 70 are setting new design benchmarks. Both are ultra-thin yet powerful, offering a balance of performance and elegance for modern users.

Design and Build

Apple’s iPhone Air measures only 5.6 mm thick, making it the slimmest iPhone ever built. It features a Grade 5 titanium frame and Ceramic Shield 2 glass for added durability. The finish feels premium, and users can choose from four colors, including Sky Blue and Space Black.

Motorola’s Edge 70, at 6 mm, comes close. It uses Gorilla Glass protection and feels lightweight at 170 grams. Its Pantone Bronze Green and Lily Pad shades give it a modern appeal. Despite being slightly thicker, it manages to pack a bigger battery and camera sensors.

Display and Performance

Both phones promise bright, fluid visuals. The iPhone Air’s 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display matches Apple’s signature clarity. Meanwhile, the Edge 70 sports a 6.67-inch pOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 4500 nits brightness, offering smoother scrolling and vivid visuals.

Performance is where differences stand out. The iPhone Air runs on Apple’s new A19 Pro chip, built on a 3nm process, delivering next-level efficiency and power. On the other hand, the Motorola Edge 70 uses Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, which focuses on balanced performance and energy savings.

Cameras and Battery

Apple retains its photography dominance with a 48MP main sensor and an 18MP selfie camera that captures realistic tones. Motorola challenges that with a dual 50MP rear setup and a 50MP front camera, capable of detailed selfies and 4K video capture.

In battery life, Motorola takes a clear edge. The Edge 70 holds a 4800 mAh battery with 68W fast charging and 15W wireless support. Apple’s iPhone Air, in pursuit of thinness, carries a 3,149 mAh unit, which may require more frequent charging.

Software and Daily Use

The iPhone Air ships with iOS 19, offering advanced continuity and AI-driven performance optimization. The Edge 70 runs Android 16 with Motorola’s Hello UI, focusing on customization and clean usage.

Both offer Dual SIM options, 5G connectivity, and strong multimedia performance, but Apple emphasizes seamless integration, while Motorola prioritizes practicality and power balance.

Which Is the Thinnest Winner?

Technically, the iPhone Air wins the thinness race at 5.6 mm, but the Motorola Edge 70 wins on battery life and value. Both phones mark a new phase of smartphone design — where thinness meets performance.

The decision comes down to user preference: Apple’s elegance and power, or Motorola’s practical slim innovation.
