Apple might be preparing its boldest shift in over a decade. According to Mark Gurman, Apple could break its traditional release cycle and launch the Apple iPhone 18 Pro lineup months ahead of the standard models. This move may reshape how Apple plans its flagship releases.

Apple iPhone 18 Pro Models May Lead the Lineup in 2026

Gurman claims that Apple may unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max between September and November 2026. Moreover, Apple may also reveal its first foldable iPhone during the same window. This device has been in development for years, and it may finally show Apple’s next big hardware leap.

This shift would mark the first time Apple releases three premium iPhones in the same autumn period. It may also indicate that Apple is ready to expand its high-end segment faster than before.

Standard iPhone 18 Models May Get Delayed to 2027

However, the standard models may not follow the usual routine. Gurman says the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and the next iPhone Air may arrive only in early 2027. Apple is reportedly targeting a spring launch window, likely between March and May.

This two-stage launch would break Apple’s decade-long pattern. It traditionally drops all four main models in the autumn, with occasional “SE” or “e” models arriving earlier in the year.

Why Apple May Change Its Release Structure

According to the report, Apple wants to reduce internal pressure. Teams have struggled with the dense autumn schedule, especially with new hardware, new software and manufacturing timelines clashing. The crowded cycle also contributed to issues like the uneven rollout of Apple Intelligence features in 2024.

By spreading launches across the year, Apple may create smoother timelines and allow suppliers more flexibility. Additionally, the company may gain more breathing room for design changes and new technologies across each model tier.

More iPhone Options Through the Year

If Apple follows this plan, customers may see five or six new iPhones annually. Rather than waiting for one big autumn drop, Apple may refresh parts of its lineup year-round. This strategy could help Apple stay in the spotlight and boost sales momentum.

The next two years may therefore mark a major turning point for the iPhone family as Apple experiments with a staggered release future.
