Google Fi has started rolling out a major change to how users make calls and check messages on the web. The update introduces a fresh Google Fi Web Calls page while moving all RCS activity to Google Messages for Web. The goal is simple: bring richer messaging while keeping calls accessible on any device.
Two Sites, Two Jobs
Earlier, Fi users relied on one website for calls, texts, and voicemail. However, RCS never worked there. Now, Google splits everything across two portals. Calls and voicemail live on fi.google.com/webcalls, while texting moves fully to messages.google.com/web, including all RCS chats. This shift means users must switch tabs, yet the layouts feel almost identical and easy to follow.
RCS Finally Arrives for Fi Web Users
With this update, Google Fi unlocks RCS messaging on the web. Users get high-resolution media sharing, faster delivery, and real-time typing indicators. The upgrade works only on Android, as iOS still waits for broader RCS support.
Google says the new system keeps everything synced with Messages for Web. Therefore, users can continue a text conversation while checking voicemails or returning calls on their laptops or tablets.
Calls Keep Working Even When Your Phone is Off
A standout feature remains untouched. Even when the Android phone is off, users can still place or receive calls from the Web Calls page. Incoming call and voicemail notifications continue to work as long as the account stays signed in.
Things You Should Know
Google added a few notes for smooth setup. You must wait 24 hours to activate Web Calls after activating Fi service. Call deletions on the web stay local, but voicemail deletions sync everywhere.
You also can’t bulk delete call logs or voicemail yet. To turn on RCS, users must stop syncing conversations with Fi before enabling RCS inside Google Messages settings.
